About Pinestead Farm
I am Alyssa Sherburn, the seventh generation to farm Pinestead. My focus for the farm is on sustainable, soil based farming. I have worked closely with my Father over the years, selling at farmer’s markets and through Pinestead’s roadside farm stand. We built a greenhouse and several high tunnels to extend our very short growing season. Three years ago, Brandon Dexter joined me and we took on managing the agricultural aspects at Pinestead. We’ve expanded the farm’s market sales, added grass fed beef to the operation and most recently began growing lettuce hydroponically.
History of Pinestead Farm
Pinestead Farm in Franconia, NH has been family owned and operated since 1793. It has remained a working farm throughout the centuries. There have always been large vegetable gardens, from which the family sold and consumed fresh produce all spring, summer and fall, while drying, canning, pickling, and storing the bounty for the long winters. The farm has always kept a variety of livestock including beef cattle, chickens, pigs and horses. There is a working maple sugar house, sawmill and shingle mill on the property. The farm also welcomes visitors to Pinestead Farm Lodge which has been hosting guests since 1899.
